How to take a good image of the moon at night?
You need to have a good tripod, a darker area for a good shot of moon.
I used for this shot Sony Alpha, a tripod, 300mm sony lens, exposure time : 1/160.
If you are using digital SLR camera, set the camera to "M" and adjust the aperture, always use the shutter speed slower. I prefer focusing the camera to the moon rather than camera adjust itself.
When you take a the moon picture; use slower
shutter speed and wait patiently.
It is a good idea to playback the image, zoom in, see how it looks.
If you can see details of craters, your image is good to go. If the moon is too bright and washed out, then try faster shutter speed.
If its not bright enough, set it a little slower speed.
You can experiment until you find the right shutter speed. You may use a circular polarizer if you like to take picture of the moon in the late afternoon.
In early evening or late afternoon pale blue sky can not show much of the moon, a circular polarizer can help eliminate some of the lit-side glare and bring out some of the contrast of the mare as well.
