San Diego California When my friend Neal Lange who is from San Diego an artist told me, " It is so clean that if you drop your bagel in the street, you can pick up and eat it. You will love that city." I have to say I did not believe him, until I saw it. It was a beautiful summer day, when I arrived in San Diego . I stayed at Hilton Gaslamp, mainly because it was heart of downtown among many other good features. All room have wireless. At night you can just walk everywhere. Convention center is right across the hotel. There is always event going on there, culture is so vivid. San Diego is probably the most well developed city in America . Everywhere is so clean. It is safe to walk in downtown even after midnight. You do not have to depend on a car in this city. Public transportation is very reliable. Trolley can take you everywhere in the city even to Tijuana , it will only cost $5 for great adventure to Mexico . |
If you are going there with your family, you should not miss visiting the great zoo. It will take a whole day to enjoy big park and all kinds of animals. My favorite part was Koala exhibit. Panda discovery center was full of information and watching pandas was really one of a kind event. Before you will leave the zoo peak the gift store. You can be amazed how many books or gifts you could buy from gift shop. The zoo is very big place, take your time to finish walking, otherwise you will feel very tired. If you do not want to walk that much they do have bus service. I enjoyed walk along Seaport Village. The architecture is really striking from Early California and New England effects on the buildings the turn of the century. I kept going back to my walking route to Seaport Village, because it was so nice environment. I could feel sea breeze on my face, do little window shopping, enjoy the sun, rest under beautiful trees. You will see there 75 shops, restaurants and sidewalk eateries. Walking path along the bay is build contentiously park after park style. I found myself at Maritime Museum. Well I am glad I walked that much, because being in a sailing boat was definitely pleasant feeling. The Star of India is the world's oldest active ship. When I was in it, I could feel she was whispering to waves in a soft, gentle way. |

If you prefer more shopping, then try Horton Plaza shopping center which has 140 shops, restaurants, boutiques and bistros. I was so impressed that art and shopping how can be that much in harmony.
Gaslamp Quarter was my favorite area. There are many art galleries. I spent hours on going from one to another. It was not like they called it art and showed you a dust pan with a bow. No it was real art, all your aesthetic feelings satisfied, even you could not afford to buy anything. Most paintings and statues that I liked were about $10,000 and up price range. Well at least I will remember all the good time I spent in front of them.
Shopping for authentic products then Old Town San Diego is the center. Many handcrafted items, art and craft style goods in more affordable price range. I got many hand blown glass items and porcelain figures.

Balboa Park , the largest urban cultural park in the U.S. , features 15 museums, numerous art galleries, beautiful gardens, The Globe Theatres and San Diego Zoo. I suggest getting a pass for a week to enjoy the great museums, take your time to visit all. They all carry unique exhibitions as well as significant information. In San Diego 6,400 eating establishments are ready to serve you. Well I can tell you good restaurants are waiting to feed you. Hard Rock Café "801 4th Avenue" met all my hunger expectations in one night. I know they say San Diego features some of the best beaches in the world. But I was more like a city woman who took my time in downtown at museums. I hope next time I will visit beaches too. I strongly recommend traveling to San Diego. This city design for tourism! I sure have to give them credit for doing good job. Architecture, parks, art and culture will keep you busy there. For every age group you will find something to do there. Here is the short list of other things worth seeing in the city; San Diego Wild Animal Park, Sea World San Diego, Mission Bay Park & Beach, Lego Land, Balboa Park & Museums, Qualcomm Stadium. |
